My name is Carlos Guilliams, I was active duty in the Army from 2011 to 2014. My duty station was For Hood Texas and I was assigned to 1st Cavalry Division.
I held dual MOS, 92F and 89B. I supplied fuel to tanks and all other motorized vehicles in my brigade, I was also chosen to be cross trained to supply ammunition to all the tank and small arms ranges on post.
Currently I am 80% service connected. 50% connected for PTSD from MST and later being stabbed and threatened to keep quiet by the same soldier who drugged me, which then lead to alcohol abuse disorder.
I have been sober from alcohol for 7 years, and attend mental health and physical therapy at the VA. Life with my disability has been a challenge ever since I got home. You fall into a deep depression, and find yourself closing off to everyone around you. I am uncomfortable in my social settings now due to being on high alert and super vigilant.
I found out about Freedom Labradors and Övervaka Vänner through a friend Sean Carnell, who has a service dog himself. He thought I would be a perfect fit for their program. After spending time with Sean and Chelsea learning about the things service dogs can do, I believe this opportunity would change my life and families life for the better.
